Tata Motors is one of India’s leading automakers, noted for its innovative and cheap vehicles. Tata Sierra, a three-door sport utility vehicle introduced in 1991 and decommissioned in 2000, was one of Tata’s most recognisable cars. The Sierra was built on the Tata Telcoline pickup truck and featured a distinguishing appearance with a curved rear window and a roomy interior. Upcoming Tata Sierra
After more than two decades, Tata Motors intends to resurrect the Sierra brand with a new electric SUV based on the Sierra EV concept shown at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Sierra EV idea was a modernised tribute to the original Sierra. It featured linked LED headlights and tail lamps, dual-tone alloy wheels, and a panoramic sunroof. With lounge-style seating, a digital instrument cluster, and a touch-screen infotainment system, the inside of the idea was similarly opulent and expansive.
The Sierra will be the first in-segment SUV to offer a four-seat lounge option, and it is slated to be launched in India by December 2025. It will also be powered by Tata’s Ziptron powertrain, a high-voltage electric system with a 400-kilometer range on a single charge. Fast charging, regenerative braking, liquid cooling, and a battery management system are also included in the Ziptron powertrain.
The Sierra will compete in the Indian market with other electric SUVs such as the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia EV6. The Sierra is likely to cost around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
